In 2019, Suman spent time working at a hospital in Masindi, Uganda, and during her free time she would often visit the Family Spirit Child Care Centre, a local orphanage, to play with the children. Over time, she befriended the founders, Isaac and Susan, and learned more of their story.

Isaac and Susan are a couple living with HIV, and in 2002 they founded Family Spirit Child Care Centre to provide homes and education to vulnerable children in Masindi who were left abandoned following the deaths of their parents. Often, many of the children they provide for have no foster family, are victims of abuse and home violence, and/or affected by war.

Since returning to the U.S., Suman and her husband, Dain, have sent money to support the orphanage, and maintained contact with Isaac and Susan. One day, Isaac reached out to brainstorm educational sponsorships and secondary opportunities, as unfortunately many children end up on the street or in vulnerable situations after aging out of the orphanage.

Thus, the nonprofit, Family Spirit Foundation, was created in 2024! We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and our goal is to fully fund the orphanage and sponsor education for each and every one of our children. Please join us in changing their lives!
